Originally from Houston, artist Lindsay Peyton spent her early years in rural Texas towns as well as in Pennsylvania. Clay, crayons, pencils and paints were a constant presence in her early childhood, and in high school, Peyton took an oil painting class. She was smitten. She then tried darkroom photography.

Art classes were not the only influence on Peyton – she was swept further into the field of art by her travels to France, where she traced the paths of Van Gogh and Monet to experience the beauty they observed a century and a half ago. She also counts among her inspirations the light and colors of Mexico and western states of the U.S.

For Peyton, it was an easy decision to incorporate art into her career. After earning her Bachelor of Journalism degree in Photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin, Peyton was named the creative director at Stained Concrete in the Houston area, acting as field supervisor and customer service specialist as well as public relations assistant. She followed this with a role as instructor at City ArtWorks, running an after-school elementary arts program. Peyton then worked as an assistant art teacher at Kinkaid School as well as gallery director at Taft McWhorter Fine Art. She has also served as a member of the Spacetaker artist advisory board and the Houston Arts and Culture board.

Peyton currently works as the principal of Cadence Enterprise, a creative firm specializing in public relations and artist consultation services.

She continues to exhibit regularly and participate in juried shows. A solo show at the Jung Center of Houston in 2016, a summer residency in 2016 at artEAST in Issaquah, a 2015 residency at the Art Farm Nebraska, 2013 residency in Kentucky as well as an autumn show at Winter Street Studios Gallery in Houston are among her recent endeavors. Her art has been on display in recent years in Houston’s most popular art venues, including Spring Street Studios, Betz Art Gallery, Canal Street Gallery and M2 Gallery.

Studio visits in Seattle and Houston are available by appointment.
